In patients with constipation due to disease or treatment factors, the stool will be stored in the intestines, resulting in dry and hard stools, making it difficult and laborious to defecate.

1. Intestinal obstruction caused by intestinal or abdominal tumor compression.
2. Radiation therapy, chemical agents or analgesics.
3. Insufficient intake of fiber and water in the diet.
4. Weakness, decreased mobility, and lack of moderate exercise.
5. Hypercalcemia.

2. Treatment method

1. When the condition permits, increase the intake of water, including soup, water, fruit juice, about 1500-2000c.c a day.

2. Ingest more fiber-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, high-fiber milk, dietary fiber and other foods.

3. Do more exercises within the scope of your ability, such as walking down the bed, doing leg-lifting or hip-lifting exercises while lying on the bed, all of which can help bowel movements.

Abdominal massage can increase bowel movement, the steps are as follows:

Make a fist with the palm facing down.

Use the ㄇ shape to make a circular massage from the right lower abdomen to the top, pressing down to a depth of about 4.5 cm.

Do about 15-20 minutes each time.

It is performed at the same time every day, and the effect is best when performed 30 minutes after breakfast.

4. Patients who use morphine drugs or have weak physical strength should take defecation-promoting drugs regularly according to the doctor’s advice to soften and discharge the stool.

5. Develop the habit of defecation at least once every three days. If the bowel movement is not resolved in three days, follow the doctor’s advice:

1) If you find that there is hard stool in the anal orifice, you can wear disposable gloves, apply lubricant on your index finger, first slowly expand the anus in a ring shape, gently dig out the hard stool, and then enema or plug medicine.
2) Use glycerin ball enema, let the patient lie on the left side during the enema, try to hold back the medicine, and then defecate after 5 minutes.
3) Bedridden patients can pack a diaper or use a potty on the bed.
4) When using anal suppository, first lubricate the front end with lotion or water, and gently push a finger long along the edge of the intestinal wall. After 2 to 3 hours, it will feel like a bowel movement.
5) If you have not eaten or cannot eat for many days, the stool will become less, so you don’t have to deal with it in three days.

6. Acupoint massage for constipation

3) Press the Tianshu acupoint with the left finger for about 1 minute until there is a clear sense of soreness, then hold your breath and increase the abdominal pressure to defecate.
