AL DMV Practice Test 1
What is the best way to stop your vehicle?
You're driving a vehicle without antilock brakes (ABS) on a slippery wet road. What is the best way to stop your vehicle?
When stopping on packed snow or ice, apply the brakes gently. With a vehicle that lacks ABS, braking hard may lock the wheels and cause a skid. Instead, pump the brakes. Start by applying the brakes. If your wheels lock, release the brakes to get the wheels rolling again, then squeeze down again. Keep repeating this pumping action until the vehicle stops. Note: Do NOT do this if your vehicle has ABS. ABS will do its own brake pumping to keep the wheels from locking, so you can apply the brake pedal firmly until the vehicle stops. If you pump the brakes, you'll just deactivate the ABS.
