Advanced page SEO skills

The last chapter lists some of my favorite on-page SEO techniques.

Therefore, once you have optimized the title and H1 tags of the page, here are some tips that can help you take the SEO on the page to a new level.

Let us begin to study the strategy.

Use original image

Do you use stock images in your content?

Well, those stock images can hurt your SEO.

Shai Aharony recently tested the impact of stock images on Google rankings.

This is what happened...

First, Shai created many brand new websites for this experiment. These are new domain names that have never been registered.

Shai's new test domain

He used generic stock images on some websites. And other original images.

Picture or unique picture

The result is clear: sites with unique images rank higher than sites that use stock photos.

Duplicate image. Unique image

So if you want to use stock photos used by a thousand other sites, consider creating a custom image.

This is what we did at Backlinko. At least according to this small study, these original images may help us rank.

Internal link

Internal links are huge for SEO.

Specifically, you want to link from high-authority pages on your site to pages that need to be enhanced.

Internal links from high authority pages to low authority pages

When you do this, make sure to use keyword-rich anchor text. This is an example:

In this way, this is the process I use and recommend.

First, use SEO tools such as Ahrefs to display the page with the highest link authority on your website.

Then, add some internal links from these pages to high-priority pages on your website.

For example, I recently wanted to improve the ranking of our press release guide.

Therefore, I added an internal link to this guide from one of the most authoritative pages.

If you want to see a good example of internal links on the site, please check Wikipedia.

They added a lot of keyword-rich internal link annotations on each page:

Write comprehensive content

Google wants to show users content that can provide what they need on a single page.

In other words: comprehensive content.

And, if your post covers the entire topic, the chance of ranking is higher.

One of the easiest ways to ensure that Google sees your content intact?

LSI keywords.

LSI keywords are synonyms used by Google to determine page relevance.

I don't have any doubts about LSI keywords, because I usually write very long content.

(Long content increases the chance that you will naturally use LSI keywords).

However, if you want to be 100% sure to use LSI keywords, please search for your keywords in Google and scroll down to the "Search related to..." area at the bottom of the page:

And throw any meaningful information to you.

Improve page speed

Google records indicate that page load speed is a signal of SEO ranking (recently, they have made PageSpeed more important ).

Based on our analysis of 5.2 million websites, you can increase the loading speed of your website by moving to a faster host.

You can delete as many third-party scripts as possible.

And reduce the total size of the page.

Image optimization

You want to provide a descriptive file name and alternate text for each image on the site.

Alternate text

This can help Google (and users with visual impairments) understand what is displayed in each image. And, if it makes sense, optimize an image for your target keywords. Therefore, please use the file name that contains the target keyword

(For example, on-page-SEO-chart.png). And use the same keyword as part of the image alt tag.

Another reason for optimizing images for SEO: It provides search engines with another clue about the content of the page... which can help them rank higher.

In other words, when Google sees a page with pictures of "blue widgets" and "green widgets," it tells them: "This page is related to widgets."
Optimized images help search engines understand your content

Rank your content in featured snippets

In the featured Abstract ongoing rankings can make your CTR changed dramatically.

The only gain?

According to this industry research, you must already be on the homepage to get featured feature snippets.

Featured snippets tend to rank

This means you need to find first page results that have featured excerpts and rank them.

To find them, open Ahrefs, SEMrush, or any SEO software you use.

And find the page that ranks on the first page of Google from your website.

Then, filter for keywords that already have a featured snippet.

Then, look at Google’s featured code snippets in each term.

SERP Featured Snippet

Finally, you need to optimize your content to rank in the "Featured Code Snippet."

So if you see a "definition" featured snippet, you want to include a short definition in the content.

If it is a list of steps or prompts, then you need to ensure that the page structure is consistent.

Voice search SEO

Voice search has grown rapidly.

And what is the best way to optimize content for voice search?

Create a FAQ page.

Our voice search SEO research found that Google likes to extract voice search results from FAQ pages.

The result is the FAQ page
